cupboards

Your kitchen cupboards are probably the same colour that they were when they first installed into your kitchen. While a good clean up can refresh the kitchen, sometimes a complete colour change can be a better way to add a fresh feel into your home. It is not always necessary to completely reinstall a new set of cupboards, as yours are probably still in full working condition. Pro Paint professional painting and decorators Denbighshire offer some advice how you could go about tackling those old cupboards.

ONE

Remove all the knobs and handles from any kitchen cupboards that you are planning to paint. When you are doing this, be sure to remove all of the contents from inside of the cupboards at the same time. Then apply some masking tape over the hinges and any glass, before putting down dust sheets to protect the rest of the room if required.

TWO

Give the cabinet/cupboards a good clean with sugar soap and strong detergent solution. This will make sure that you have a non-greasy and smooth canvas to work on. Any leftover moisture or soap residue should be removed and the area dried.

THREE

Once things are dry, sand down the cupboard surface with some fine sandpaper. (This step can be missed if you are working on a melamine or high gloss surface). Any imperfections should be filled with good quality mixed filler and sanded again.

FOUR

Depending on the surface, you should add a wood or melamine primer. You may want to use a small roller on doors for a smoother finish. Water based paint will eliminate the need to prime, will dry quicker and won’t smell during the painting process.

FIVE

Apply a coat, allow it to dry and sand it with a fine paper to ensure a smooth, professionally finish. Remember to wipe it dry with a damp cloth. Then proceed to add a second coat. When this has finally dried, remove any tape and put on your handles and knobs. Take a step back and admire your beautiful new cabinets!
