Many of us rarely look up whilst sat in the living room or cooking in the kitchen and so when we do, we can be shocked at the state our ceilings have gotten in to. Often referred to as a filth wall, we tend to overlook the top of the room when deciding to give our homes a new look or refresh. Here are some ways to give your room a refresh by optimising your ceilings.

Matching

Sometimes this can be the easiest option as it requires simply sampling the current colour of your walls and going with it. If you’re looking for something subtly different, why not take the current colour of your walls and try shifting up or down a few shades to create a subtle difference between the two – this is known as monochromatic and looks great in most homes!

White

This is a go to for many and means that whatever colour your walls are, you don’t have to worry about it not matching. White ceilings can make a room feel much bigger than it is, giving you a real sense of space and brightening up the aesthetic of your home. Choosing white also means that should you change your mind later down the line, painting over it shouldn’t be much of a big job at all.

Contrast

Maybe you find your home is looking a little boring or you’d like to add a pop of colour to bring excitement to a room, either way, using a bold colour is sure to add a real wow factor to your home. Neutral walls with a bold ceiling canmake your home look contemporary and upmarket, definitely something to try if you’re looking for something different to the everyday home.

Finishes

Not only do you have room to play with the colour of your ceilings, you can also look at the different finishes available on the market. From matte paint to metallic glazes, you can achieve so many different aesthetics and have fun picking out the best option for you and your home.

Although ceilings have a rep for being the boring part of the home, you’d be surprised at how much they can really transform your space! And don’t forget, make sure that whatever you do, cover your furniture!
